Random Acts of Kindness
Last year, we were out running some errands, when we realized that one of our tires was flat. We pulled off the road as soon as we could, and we happened to be right next to a fire station. As we got out of the car to assess the situation, we felt frustrated and inconvenienced. We had a lot to get done and a flat tire did not fit into the plans! Just then a large fire truck drove passed us and pulled into the station. A few moments later, half a dozen firefighters came out of the station and circled our car. They offered to help and proceeded to change our tire with record speed and before we knew it, we were on the road again! We could hardly believe what happened and were so grateful for the help. The firefighters did not have to help us; they were probably tired and had many other things they needed to work on, but they saw our need and knew they could help.
Random acts of kindness are done spontaneously without expectation of reward or recognition. It may only take us a moment to smile or pay someone a compliment, but for them it could change the whole direction of their day. It can also inspire them to do the same for others, which creates a ripple of kindness that expands and can help countless people.
Kevin Heath said, “No act of kindness is too small. The gift of kindness may start as a small ripple that over time can turn into a tidal wave affecting the lives of many.”
